Method 1. Find Out the List of Apps that Actually Run in the Background.
Step 1. To find out the names of the app that are currently running in your system, go to settings and then developer options.

Just locate the Build Number, and tap on it for an approx. of 10 times depending on your mobile OS version. The developer options will appear in the 7th or 8th tap, and you will see a notification informing that you are now a developer.

Step 3. After you have made a note of apps, which consume high resources, it is evident that the next step is to stop them. Navigate to settings and then to Apps section.
Step 4. Search for the apps, which you had noted in Step 2, the ones that were consuming a large amount of resources, and tap on them one by one. Next tap on Force Stop to stop the running application.
Note: This action is temporary and the next time you restart your phone, those apps will automatically restart, and you will have to stop the processes once again.
Step 5. If there are apps that you haven't heard of or don't use, then you can tap the Uninstall button, instead of Force Stop to remove them permanently from your Mobile device. Don't worry, you cannot uninstall any Android system app as the uninstall option only appears only for third-party apps.

This feature uses machine learning techniques to determine, which apps you use frequently and distinguishes between those that you rarely use or don't use at all. Adaptive Battery feature currently classifies all apps into four buckets, namely, Active, Frequent, Working Set and Rare. Turn on this feature to keep your phone optimized and stop rarely used apps in the background.
You can manually close all apps by navigating to Battery options in the settings and tapping each one choosing to optimize and restrict background activity to improve battery life.
